I know a lot about lightning. It is a big spark of electricity that travels from the nightmare sky to the wormy ground. The spark is so hot that it makes the air around it POP!
The Empire State Building gets struck by lightning 100 times a day!
There is about 9,000 strikes of lightning ever day.

See, Think, Wonder
In Room 12, we have been using the 'See, Think, Wonder' strategy in our writing. We have crazy pictures and we have to use our creative thinking skills to write about the picture. Here is a photo of the one we did together.
Then we use our Solo Taxonomy to assess our own work.

Money Matters!
In Room 12 we are learning about money on Tuesdays. Last week we looked at lots of different coins. Some were old New Zealand coins that aren't used anymore, like 5c pieces and old 20c pieces, and some were from different countries. One of the activities we did was to do coin rubbings of some of the coins. Here are some of the photos of the coins and coin rubbings. It was lots of fun! Who doesn't love money?!

The Next Dancing with the Stars Contestants
A group of Room 12 children have been practicing their ballroom dancing skills over the holidays preparing for their performance last night. They were spectacular and absolutely stole the show. All their dedication to rehearsals paid off and I was extremely proud of them. The hall had all these amazing lights in all sorts of colours which looked great and added to the drama but played havoc for me to get some good photos. However, I will post these to give you all an idea of how gorgeous they were.

What can we do in Room 12 this term to top that?
Mini Caretakers at Ilam
The children are very excited to be given the responsibility of being mini caretakers this term. They all willingly signed up for the post and were assigned their own day. This is a chance for the children to show more care for our school environment. Here is a photo of Ropeta and Oliver kitted out in their caretaker uniform.

Our Marvellous Monsters
Well, it took weeks...but we got there! And don't they look amazing. After designing, redesigning, winding wool, unwinding wool, rewinding wool, cutting, gluing, and changing our minds (a lot), our monsters are finished. Each has their own name - ask your child what their monster is called. They really became a part of the class. Bright colours, unique features and many accessories - these monsters are just gorgeous! This was one proud class, and so they should be.
